February Highlights

Legal experts representing UK law firms including Ashurst, Eversheds, Field Fisher Waterhouse and SJ Berwin shared detailed insights into the legal and regulatory framework for cross border gas pipeline interconnections for a leading Russo-German client dealing with legalizations and authorisations

A very successful series of discussions and practical equipment demonstrations were held for a Russian Security delegation with UK companies such as Alix Partners, Haymarket Management and PricewaterhouseCoopers who conducted presentations on managing crisis situations, developing a fraud policy and dealing with information security issues and risks

A high-level Electricity delegation representing Russia’s leading electric power supply companies visited London and Berlin to explore the best management practice in customer care and billing mechanisms and how companies respond to electricity metering and supply competition. Presenting companies included Mott Macdonald and Frontier Economics among notable others. The event was substantiated by a visit to the EDF Energy Call Centre to experience first-hand how customer care centres are the driving force behind client satisfaction

March Highlights

A 15-member delegation representing the Federal Tariff Service (FST) of Russia led by Head of Power Pricing Regulations and Control visited Bonn in Germany and met with senior counterparts at E.ON AG in order to gain insights into the European electricity retail and wholesale markets, particularly the electricity pricing and tariff structures in Western Europe with respect to transmission and distribution of power

A 10-member delegation comprising Heads of Internal Audit representing Russia’s national telecoms holding company of its various subsidiaries met with experts at British Telecom and others including Deloitte, Mazars and TUFF to learn more about the role Internal Audit plays in detecting corporate fraud

Russian Government’s toughening of ecological measures over the last decade has forced oil production and exploration companies to reconsider their policy in the field of environmental protection. A delegation visited London to explore incident management solutions for the offshore oil industry Western technologies currently in use to deal with oil spills. Director, Investment Projects and Head of Treasury representing a Russian nuclear power stations operator met with UK financiers such as HSBC, project management and construction experts at Mott Macdonald and independent specialists for discussions on investment planning and financing of power projects

April Highlights

A Russo-Vietnamese JV company conducting preliminary research for further policy development met with legal specialists at Ashurst and research and technology consultants at Aker Solutions and Schlumberger to explore current developments in carbon capture, transport and storage and general waste disposal activities in UK/Europe.

Market players from Russia’s power distribution sector visited London to gain practical advice on improving the commercial performance and reducing technical losses in electricity transmission. Meetings were arranged with Kema Consulting GmbH, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Energy Utility Management along with a visit to Consumer Focus

Various schemes and insurance products available to the power industry were discussed with a Russian group by leading providers including Swiss Re, Willis, Jardine Lloyds Thompson and Marsh including legal insights provided by Norton Rose into the nuclear insurance regime and regulation in the UK

Executives from Russia’s state nanotechnology organisation keen to hear financiers’ perspective on investing in commercial viable nanotech projects met with officials at HSBC who discussed various sources available for raising finance for projects nearing the commercialization stage

May Highlights Study of the experience of heavy oil recovery in Calgary
A seminar of Innovative Technologies in Heavy Oil Recovery, highlighting In-Situ Combustion (ISC) from examples of the Canadian experience took place in Calgary (Canada) from 16 – 22 May.

Amongst the delegates attending were representatives of oil companies from Tyumen, Kazakhstan and Tatarstan and to substantiate the visit, the group was brought by helicopter to the oil field to witness the efficiency of Petrobank technology of oil recovery by in-situ combustion.

Training on the Isle of Wight

During the period of the 31^st of May – 5^th of June, a very successful seminar took place in Southampton and the Isle of Wight (UK) on oil spillage and the minimization of the negative ecological effect on the environment with the help of new technologies and equipment. Vikoma International the leading manufacturer of technical devices and equipment for oil spill response hosted the group to their facility and demonstrated equipment, in particular their HI Sprint Booms on Medina river.

Delegates from the Control & Fraud Detection Department of the company “Rosneft” met counterparts in Italy and Spain to gain insights into the latest fraud prevention framework standards and best practices across business units with respect to risk and compliance. Speakers included Head of the Department of Global Audit for the Italian Energy company ENEL.

September Highlights

A dedicated group of professionals representing the Russian municipal and industrial wastewater markets visited London to explore advances in the practical application of the pipeline repair technology. One-to-one sessions were arranged with Balfour Beatty, Flex-Seal, 3M, GSE Lining also including a technical visit to a Sewage Treatment Works operated by Anglian Water

Various new and emerging Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technologies were presented to an 8-member Russian and Kazakh delegation by experts representing Wintershall AG, Imperial College, RPS Energy, IRIS Norway, Schlumberger and Heriott Watt University

August Highlights
